- I encountered the same situation but here is what I did and it worked! 🙂 I promised that if it worked I would share it, so there: I opened the Windows task manager, and saw that there were a couple of old spotify tasks open.
- Download CCleaner. Now you need to click on the ‘Registry’ and it will open up the registry scanner. In the next window, you need to click on ‘Scan for issues’ and wait until CCleaner completes the scanning process.
- For me 'Error: Spotify Plugin not working' is more that the plugin itself is broken, I concluded too fast that the cause could have been API change of Spotify. Actually, I guess you just didn't detect Spotify at the launch of the Widget, so 'Spotify not launched' 'not found', or something.

What happens?
This is a Windows device driver error. As device drivers can be used anytime your computer is trying to use a hardware resource, it can be difficult to tell which process is causing the error. If you notice the error when trying to do a specific task, identifying the source of the problem may be easier.

To fix error code 18, you will need to update the device driver. If an update does not work, you will have to reinstall the driver using Device Manager.
You will be prompted to provide the file path to the driver. Windows does have thousands of drivers built in, and it may also have the driver files that were installed the first time the device was installed. If you are not sure what the path to the driver file is when prompted, you can usually go to the manufacturer's website to get the newest version.
To update the driver:
Right click on the device. This will open the device Properties dialog box. Click on the Driver tab and choose Update Driver. This will start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the prompts and directions that the Wizard prompts you for. If the update does not work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.
